Early Doughty relations

The last post finished with the marriage of William Duty to Elizabeth Summercotes in South Ferriby on 15th January 1777.

Okay this is this marriage from Lincstothepast

http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=620238&iid=321039

I have transcribed it thus and left the transcription on the website so others can use it.
South Ferriby Parish Records - Marriages (1775-1777)
Banns of Marriage between William Duty & Elizabeth Summercotes were published on 29th Day of December 1776 & on the 5th & 12th days of January 1777,  Robt Hudson.
The said William Duty of this Parish, Bachelor, and Elizabeth Summercotes of this Parish, singlewoman, were married in this church by banns on 15th day of January, 1777, by me Robt Hudson, Curate, in presence of Robert Galloway & Richard Tathwell; William Duty & Elizabeth Summercotes both signed by marks.

Bearing in mind that the marriage record does not state that William was a minor, he must have been at least 21, so a birth around 1756 or before would fit with this William. Birth dates were seldom recorded by the church, but they were often recorded by the family in a family bible. So far I haven't found a Doughty Bible, so have to rely on the church records. So sticking the reference above, there was a William Doughty/Duty baptised around 1755 in Ulceby, second son, but no parent stated.

Looking at Lincstothepast again this would seem to be the record:

http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=783247&iid=203563

Baptisms: 1755: 18th March: W'm son of John & Elizabeth Dewty

Looking at the baptism records for this family, the first child is Mary whose baptism was recorded at Ulceby as:
Baptisms: 1750: September 21st Mary daughter of John & Elizabeth Dewty reference below:

http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=783247&iid=203554

Then came John, baptised January 1st, 1753, son of John & Elizabeth Dewty. On the same page, Mary was buried January 13th, 1752.

So the children's parents were John & Elizabeth Dewty/Duty or maybe Doughty? The record above says their marriage was not recorded at Ulceby, and that's right it was at Wootton, nearby.

Wootton Parish Records - Marriages, Baptisms & Burials (1749-1750)

Marriages 1749: October 19: John Dewty & Elisabeth Buerley, both of Ulceby.

John Dewty/Duty/Doughty was baptised 1726 according to the record above:

Baptisms 1726: John son of John & Margaret Duty November 6, (the record above has to be viewed from the side)

Marriage of John Duty & Margaret Smith: 2 January 1722 at UIceby (see below)

So next is the John Duty baptised Ulceby 1680, he's the one apparently who married Margaret Smith.

Well here is the right page of baptisms in Ulceby for 1680, but can you see the baptism of John Doughty, Duty or John Doty?

http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=783264&iid=203726

I certainly cant make out the name at all, yes there is a Doughty, but it looks more like a Thomas, spelt Tho

In 1681 & 1682 there are a number of John's baptised in Ulceby, the name is quite clear, also in 1683.

Here is the record for 1681:-
 http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=783264&iid=203729
 1682:- http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=783264&iid=203732
The same record is also for 1683

So can you find the baptism, I have also looked in neighbouring parish Wootton to no effect.

William Doughty, second son, baptised, 1610_well this is the record at Lincstothepast, but again I can't find the record, so maybe these records are not as good as reading the actual records with a magnifying glass.

This could be his death/burial in 1674, can't find his marriage yet.
http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=783264&iid=203704

John born 1639, married, 1669, died 1678, well these are the burials for 1678?

Marriages 1669: Well I can't see it again.

http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=783264&iid=203709

John born 1584, died 1649:-

Well that's the record above, but I can't see it again. His burial must be at the archives, it's not on Lincstothepast.

So at present it's all a bit disappointing, but then look at the quality of the records. maybe I will find out later about these early records and earlier Doughty people. Certainly when you hear people proudly state that they have traced relatives back to the year dot, you wonder what records they are using to prove that.
